A transformative renovation
The brief for this home renovation was to give the home a Māori aesthetic while remediating the dwelling's 'leaky home' and non-compliance issues.
Extending the roof overhang, accentuating the barge boards and adding sturdy supporting posts, the home references the wharenui with 'maihi' (outstretched arms) and 'amo' (shoulders) - creating a sense of shelter and welcome.
The previously non-compliant first-floor 'sundeck' was completely removed and replaced. The balustrades reference the palisade fence, reminiscent of a Pa site.
Extended gabling now beautifully frames the view of the trees, and a full-width skylight over the new wet room provides our client with a viewport for star gazing from her bath.
